Grade A Agarwood Incense Wood — Aquilaria crassna
Sweet, dark balsamic resin opens into toasted-marshmallow and warm forest notes in this Grade A Vietnamese agarwood. These thicker pieces reveal a more pronounced woody character as their aromatic resin is warmed.
Plantation-grown agarwood from Vietnam
Made from plantation-grown Aquilaria crassna. Agarwood forms when an Aquilaria tree develops aromatic resin within its wood in response to parasitic fungal infection. It is also known as oud wood or aloeswood.
How to gently heat agarwood
Place a small sliver on a mica plate above incense charcoal. Start with a generous distance between the plate and the charcoal, then adjust gradually. If the wood begins to char, remove it from the heat. Use a heat-resistant bowl and surface, provide ventilation, and never leave hot charcoal or heated incense unattended.
For this setup, see our incense bowls, white ash, mica plates, copper stand, and Japanese incense charcoal.
