African Myrrh Incense Resin — Commiphora myrrha
Bark-free myrrh resin from Kenya. Its fragrance is warm, earthy, and balsamic, with a bitter edge and gentle spice.
Whole myrrh resin
Use Commiphora myrrha on its own, or combine it with other aromatic materials. Myrrh is an oleo-gum-resin, made up of natural gum, resin, and aromatic oils.
How to gently heat myrrh
Place a small piece on a mica plate above an incense charcoal. Begin with more distance between the charcoal and plate, then gradually adjust closer to warm the resin without charring it. Use a heat-resistant bowl and surface, provide ventilation, and never leave hot charcoal or heated incense unattended.
For this setup, see our Japanese incense charcoal, white ash, copper stand, and mica plate.
