How to gently heat frankincense with charcoal
For gentle heating, we recommend Japanese incense charcoal in a heat-resistant incense bowl with white ash. Use a copper stand to support a mica plate above the charcoal, and place a small piece of frankincense on the plate.
Begin with more distance between the charcoal and mica plate, then adjust gradually to explore the fragrance without charring the resin. This indirect heating approach is inspired by Japanese incense appreciation and gives you control over the warmth reaching the frankincense.
Follow the charcoal and burner's instructions. Use in a well-ventilated area, keep the bowl on a heat-resistant surface, and never leave hot charcoal or heating incense unattended.
