Alligator Juniper incense wood smudge sticks. These desert beauties are hand-harvested and split by us to unveil the vibrant heartwood, which is deeply aromatic - rich, dry and sweet.

We ethically wild harvest only naturally dead alligator juniper in the mountains of southern Arizona, and from this, use only the pure heartwood. This is extremely dense Juniper, because the trees are dwarfed by the intense Arizona climate and 6000' elevation so that they only grow to be 10-15' tall.

It is best to heat the juniper pieces rather than burn them, because the fragrance comes out when smoldering and not when lit on fire. You can light them momentarily and blow it out multiple times to get a good scent. Light with a lighter or candle, or place a small piece on an incense charcoal or incense heater.

8-10 sticks per oz. These pieces are hand-split, so size and form may vary.

Alligator juniper

Wow such a wonderful scent from this wood. And there's nothing subtle about it. Reminds me of Cedarwood. I cut these flat sticks into smaller pieces with a hand pruner and then use a Subitism electric burner to release the scent but before I got that burner I would light the stick and let it burn for about 15 seconds and then blow it out and a cloud of wonderful smelling smoke would fill the room. Just like you would do with Palo Santo sticks. This is the third time in three years that I have purchased this alligator juniper and I'll definitely be back for more.
