White ambergris is the rarest color, and takes many years of aging, while floating around the ocean, to transform from its fresh black soft mass, to a hard white gem. The scent develops and is transformed in this process of oxidation, to create the amber note it's famous for.
Our antique white ambergris is so special because it's from a piece of ambergris that was estimated to have been floating around the ocean for up to 100 years or more. During the aging process, the relatively scentless ambrein molecule, oxidizes into ambroxan and ambrinol, which give aged ambergris its amber scent. Therefore, the older it is, the better it smells.
Said to be the best natural perfume fixative in the world. Ambergris has been used for over a thousand years to enhance scents and even flavors.
